The Arab World Institute in Paris issued a press release on its website on the start of its cooperation with Arab and international festivals through the launch of a new event entitled ‘Carte Blanche’ which will be programmed during the weekend of 28 and 29 September 2019 in cooperation with Luxor African Film Festival.
In recognition of the role of the festival, the statement pointed out that the LAFF aims to "support and encourage African film productions and partnerships between the countries of the continent". "It reinforces the humanitarian and political links between African populations in general and artists in particular," according to the IMA.
The program, which was developed in conjunction with the LAFF, will be screening Five feature-length films that have won awards at the Festival‘s competitions: ‘Wallay’ from Burkina Faso, "The healer" from Morocco, ‘Liyana’ from Lesotho and ‘Look at me’ from Tunisia and " Exterior night " From Egypt .
Other short films shown in previous sessions in Luxor (‘Tithes and offerings’ from Kenya, ‘A leaf’ from Egypt, ‘Timoura’ from Algeria, ‘Sega’ from Senegal and ‘Yasmina’ from Morocco) will be screened at the IMA on 28 and 29 September 2019.
The program was co-ordinated by Layane Chawaf, Director of the Film Section in the Institute, in partnership with the curators of the Luxor African Film Festival. Some of the filmmakers will be present to introduce their films in the presence of screenwriter Sayed Fouad, president of the LAFF and the filmmaker Azza El Hosseiny, executive director of the festival.
The Luxor African Film Festival is organised by the Independent Artists Youth Foundation with the support of the Egyptian Ministries of Culture, Foreign Affairs, Tourism, Youth and the National Bank of Egypt in cooperation with Luxor Governorate and the Syndicate of Film Professions.
